Why Locals Love Curry House
Curry House is a beloved Indian Muslim and breakfast restaurant nestled at Lot 1921, SL 1, Jalan Penrissen, in the vibrant city of Kuching, Sarawak. Known for its round-the-clock service, this spot has become a cherished haven for locals and travelers seeking authentic, flavorful Indian-Muslim breakfast delights any time of the day or night.
Step inside, and you’re greeted with a lively yet comfortable atmosphere—balanced perfectly so you can enjoy a peaceful meal without feeling isolated. The friendly staff, often praised for their warm hospitality, add a welcoming touch that makes dining here a pleasant and memorable experience.
Curry House’s menu is a treasure trove of comforting classics. The roti kosong stands out with its well-executed texture—soft, fluffy, yet with just the right amount of golden crispiness upon first bite. Paired with a rich and aromatic kuah kari ikan (fish curry), it offers an inviting harmony of spice and tang. Though some visitors note slight inconsistencies in the curry’s flavor on different visits, many appreciate the dish’s authentic and robust character overall. For those craving a sweeter edge, the roti tissue is a must-try: paper-thin, ultra-crispy, and delectably drizzled with condensed milk, it’s a perfect indulgence.
Beyond the breads, the maggi goreng is a solid choice—comforting and hearty with balanced seasoning. Pair your meal with a cup of their teh tarik halia (ginger pulled tea), widely celebrated as the best in town, offering a soothing blend of creamy sweetness and warming spice, even if some find the portion size on the smaller side. For rice lovers, the beriani with curry sauce delivers bold flavors, though be mindful that some find it slightly salty.
One of the greatest appeals of Curry House is its 24-hour availability, especially convenient for early risers or late-night diners. Located near Kuching Sentral, it’s an ideal spot for travelers just arrived by bus craving a wholesome, flavorful meal to start their day or revive their energy after transit.
While the food’s flavor has seen ups and downs, the overall dining experience—comprising generous portions, reasonable pricing, and a vibrant yet laid-back setting—makes Curry House a trustworthy go-to for anyone exploring Kuching’s rich culinary landscape. Whether you come for a quiet breakfast or a lively late-night gathering, this restaurant promises a taste of genuine Indian Muslim cuisine that’s both comforting and memorable.

The roti kosong here is well done. The teh tarik taste diluted and not sweet. The kuah kari ikan (fish curry) used to be nice and sour but in my recent visit, it tasted different and was disappointed. On another visit, the curry is alright. Therefore the taste of the curry is inconsistent. Maggi goreng here is decent. Roti tissue is crispy and thin on top, drizzled with condensed milk. They would play some random TV shows on the TV. The ambience is alright but slightly warm on a hot day. The washroom is tiny and used to have a lot of flies which needs improvement. The service is excellent.

Food is great, pricing is ok enough, for drinks, they are served in a pretty tiny glass which not really justify the price, atmosphere is nice and lively in all

Curry House operates 24 hours and is located near Kuching Sentral—such a solid spot for early breakfast, especially if you just arrived by bus in the morning. The Indian staff (I think they’re still called waiters or you can say staff if unsure) are friendly. The atmosphere is just right—not too loud, not too quiet. Prices are decent for the portions, and the food? Legit delicious. Their fried rice, mee, and bihun are smoky and flavorful. The nasi campur is good too if you’re into variety But hands down, my comfort picks are canai kosong and nasi goreng mamak. Those two slap every single time Pair them with a cold peppermint drink and you’re GOLD

Operates 24 hrs. Delicious food and the best teh tarik halia so far! Reasonable price. Worth it.

One of my all time favourite "mamak" kopitiam. This place located in a row of shophouses next to Kuching Sentral, so make sure to take the left most lane in order to make it to the junction. This place serve one of the best "kari kambing" I've tasted in Kuching. You won't regret it if you wanted to satisfy your "mamak" dishes cravings. Less but not least is their pull tea a.k.a "teh tarik". Pergh~ Overall dining here is pretty good. Not too stuffy, quite spacey but it will get pretty crowded during peak hours. This place passed the vibe

I like my Roti Canai & Tosai both crispy & fluffy. Most restaurants I've tried in Kuching & beyond tend to make their bread either soft or chewy or, worst of all, tough. So far, there isn't a restaurant in Kuching that does crispy & fluffy better than Curry House. The breads are also a good size. My only qualm was the tosai dough wasn't fermented enough. I like sourness in Tosai. The only item I'd warn you about is the Rojak (Pasembor). The sauce is weak & is only sweet. If you've had good Pasembor in Penang. What you get here will lack depth. I'm still looking for good Pasembor in Kuching. Let me know if you find one.
